Meet our Summer 2023 Interns for the FAO in Rome, Italy!
Katelyn Klawinsky
Food & Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations
Katelyn Klawinsky is a junior agricultural economics major with a minor in Business from New Waverly, Texas. Throughout her time as an undergraduate, Katelyn has become passionate about agricultural policy and ensuring that agriculturist’s needs are addressed. Katelyn grew up on a small ranch in Texas, where agriculture was defined as having a few cows and providing enough food for your family. As she got older, Katelyn realized the impact that ranches, similar to her family’s, have on food security. While in Washington, D.C. for her internship and on the Agricultural Policy Honors course trip, she became fascinated with sustainability and the ensuring of providing enough food for the world’s growing population. Katelyn interned with Congressman Jake Ellzey in the U.S. House of Representatives last summer, where she got to work on regulatory and legislative affairs. She researched and produced policy briefs and memorandums especially pertaining to agriculture. During her time at Texas A&M, she has been involved in Aggie REPs, MSC FISH, Fish Camp, MSC Abbott, Alpha Chi Omega and Agricultural Economics Society. These organizations have helped her make connections and further explore her interests. This summer, Katelyn is interning with the FAO because she is interested in their work in advancing global food security and promoting sustainable agricultural development. Interning with FAO will grow her understanding of how the organization formulates recommendations for policymakers while collaborating with stakeholders to produce solutions addressing global food security challenges.
