Depending on the location you are interested in, there are different nuances to the application and selection process. Take a closer look at the process below to familiarize yourself with what to expect.
Austin, Texas and Washington, D.C.- Submit a completed application: A completed application packet includes: location-specific application, cover letter, professional resume, a policy essay, official college transcripts, and letter(s) of recommendation.
- Interview: Candidates will sign up for a 15 minute interview. The interview panel will consist of program staff, COALS faculty. ANRP donors, and hosting office staff. After interviews are complete, the panel will then select who will advance to the next step in the process.
- Intro meeting: Selected interns will attend a training where they learn 1) what to expect with the next step of the application process. and 2) what to expect should they be selected by an ANRP hosting office. The meeting will cover preparation for the hosting office interviews, including tips for fine-tuning cover letters and resumes.
- Hosting office interviews: Potential hosting offices will reach out to students and conduct individual interviews with candidates in whom they are interested. Internship offers will be made directly by the hosting offices. Candidates will accept/reject offers as needed.
- Pre-departure training: You will be required to participate in several mandatory training meetings before your internship. These will address what is expected from you during your time in the program, as well as what is expected from your hosting offices/organizations.

- Faculty and staff interview: Candidates will sign up for a 15 minute interview with program staff and COALS faculty. After the interviews are complete, the panel will then select who will advance to the next step in the process.
- Securing an internship: If selected, participants will work closely with program staff in securing an internship for the semester. The program cannot guarantee selection into the internship of your choice as this is entirely up to the hosting organization. In the case of Rome, that is the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
- Pre-departure training: You will be required to participate in several mandatory training meetings before your departure. These will address what is expected from you during your time in the program, as well as what is expected from your hosting offices/organizations.

Applying for multiple program locations? You will need to submit a separate application, cover letter, and policy paper for each location to which you are applying. However, you may use the same resume, letters of recommendation, and official transcript for multiple application packets.
