Intern Testimonials

Stephen Cain and Interns“My favorite part of the internship was getting to learn and work with agricultural topics. Our legislative assistant that handles agriculture happens to be an Aggie and she allowed me to work closely with her on many of the agriculture topics that came through the office. I sat in on meetings with lobbyists and attended agricultural briefings and hearings. I was given the opportunity to advise on certain bills with regards to which way the congressman should vote. Overall there was more trust given to me than I had anticipated and it made each day very exciting.”

Taylor Horn“This internship has taught me that while it might be taxing to  commute a long way, work long hours, and do it five or more days a week, the rewards are ten-fold.  I have never had so much fun, driven so much, and worked so hard as I have this semester and I can confidently say that I would do it all over again if I had the chance.”

Emily Buckley“Living in D.C. was so amazing, I don’t want to leave! I like to say that if you’re bored in D.C., it is your own fault! I really took advantage of all the city has to offer. I also took this opportunity to tour different law schools in the area. I am very interested in starting the next chapter in this incredible district.  Yes, I have loved every minute of my job and living life in a big city, but I will remember the relationships I have built the most. The Team Carter staff has been so encouraging as I try to figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life. I know I can call them from Texas if I ever need any advice. Also, when I came to D.C., I didn’t know a single intern on a personal level. I am leaving this internship with several amazing friends that I know I will be close with the rest of my life. Everyone talks about how it is important to network with the people you meet on a professional level. That is definitely true. However, I recently realized that by living and working with my fellow ANRP/PPIP interns, we have created our own network. We will forever have this experience in common and knowing one another socially, could truly impact our lives professionally. After all, we are the future.”

Jon Bocanegra Professional pic“The internship was an enlightening experience. I was able to be a part of the legislative process, try living in a culture different from that of Texas, and have expanded my network tremendously. I’m glad I was able to be a part of the ANRP program, and would do it again in a heartbeat if I had the chance.”

Harrington & Hough- Interns Playing Baseball“Outside of the office, I fell in love with D.C. The town has such a unique character. I’ve always to live in the N.E and live in a big city. D.C. is a big city but it doesn’t feel like it. With the city ordinances the way they are there are no skyscraper or ugly high rises. I like way more than I like NYC. Every building is the most important building for whatever it contains, the amount of knowledge in that town is amazing. The people are great. Everyone is over-qualified and under paid, which is a unique thing. I made so many friends. Professionally and privately. I will always keep D.C. close to my heart and I plan on getting back as soon as I can. This internship is the best thing that has every happened to me and it will always continue to benefit me.”

Aker - Aggie of Import“I loved getting to go to the Smithsonian museums on my free time, and the National Art Gallery was my favorite museum of all.  The medieval and renaissance works of art were my favorite, and seeing the only painting by Da Vinci in America was awe-inspiring. Through the D.C. Aggies, I also got to volunteer for the D.C. Muster, one of the largest outside College Station.  I got to hang out with Coach Jackie Sherrill, and at the end of the night I stood next to him when we all Sawed ‘Em Off! Getting to know an Aggie legend is by far one of my favorite memories of D.C.”

Anna Wood

“Overall, my brief yet action-filled glimpse into the inner workings of the state legislature has given me a taste of life beyond the college years that sitting in a classroom simply cannot provide. And for that, I am grateful.”

Daniella Silva“It is crucial to establish relationships that have potential to open doors in the future. With the combined knowledge I have gained from researching bills, engaging in meaningful conversations with politicians, lobbyists, and constituents, and just paying attention to my surroundings, I feel much more confident with entering the professional world than I did three months ago.”
